We are very pleased to announce this special release from our partners at La Prosperidad de Chirinos, situated up in the mountains of Cajamarca, Peru. Chirinos is a cooperative made up of over 800 producer members with a commitment to working together as a community to produce the highest-quality coffee possible. We first visited La Prosperidad de Chirinos in 2018 and have maintained a close relationship with them ever since. Their consistently high-quality macrolots are essential components in many of our blends, and we're so excited to bring this beautiful single-producer offering into the lineup.
Meeting Sujeily at Origin
This washed process Geisha microlot is from producer Sujeily Vasquez Pérez, a member of the cooperative who we had the opportunity to meet on our most recent trip to Peru last fall. Sujeily has been a member of La Prosperidad de Chirinos since 2021, and her farm, El Zorzal, sits just shy of 1,850 meters above sea level near Chirinos. The high elevation of Sujeily's farm helps her coffee plants to flourish and rewards the flavor with a bright complexity. We were absolutely blown away by the depth and delicate flavors of this coffee — brilliant floral notes, sparkly citrus acidity, and a sweet richness reminiscent of coconut cream.
The Coffee: A Washed Geisha Microlot
Geisha is a variety that traces its roots back to the Gori Gesha forest of Ethiopia. Discovered in the 1930s, it has gone on to achieve global recognition as an outstanding variety — especially after its standout performances in specialty coffee competitions around the world. The producers of Chirinos are always experimenting with new and exciting varieties, from their plant nurseries at headquarters to the individual farms, and Sujeily's Geisha is a perfect example of what this dedication can produce. We secured a two-bag lot from Sujeily this year, so it will be available for a short time only!
