Ethiopia Chelchele Coffee Release
From the Chelchele Washing Station
This release comes to us from the Chelchele Washing Station, which is situated in the kebele of Chelchele in Kochere, Yirgacheffe. As is typical of Ethiopia, producers on small plots of land grow heirloom landrace varieties in addition to many other crops. These smallholder producers will then deliver their coffee cherry to the washing station in Chelchele, where it will be sorted, weighed, and sold to the station.
Natural Processing and Drying
Coffee is rinsed clean and dried on raised drying beds as it is prepared for export. The drying process can take anywhere from 8 to 25 days, depending on weather conditions, and during this time the coffee is rotated constantly to ensure even drying across the beds. This careful process is a hallmark of naturally processed Ethiopians, where fruit-forward flavors develop while preserving balance and clarity.
Why Yirgacheffe Stands Out
We’re thrilled to offer a special release from Yirgacheffe this year, a region esteemed for its unique microclimates that allow for diverse and highly complex coffees. While many of our Ethiopian offerings this year have come from the Guji region, Yirgacheffe provides a refreshing change of pace. Coffees from this area are often celebrated for their florality, complexity, and the distinct blueberry note that has become almost synonymous with the region.
Flavor Experience: The Blueberry Bomb You’ve Been Looking For
This release is certainly no exception — it’s the blueberry bomb you’ve been looking for. With layered flavors of wild blueberries, delicate rose florality, and a rich sweet cream body, Ethiopia Chelchele is lively, aromatic, and endlessly enjoyable.
