Our Latest Ethiopian Release: A Naturally Processed Gem from Gogogu Washing Station

We’re thrilled to introduce the newest addition to our summer lineup—a vibrant, naturally processed coffee from the renowned Gogogu Washing Station in Uraga Woreda, Ethiopia. Nestled in the Guji Zone, this region is known for producing some of the most dynamic and complex coffees in the world—and this lot is no exception.

A Distinctive Summer Standout

This release marks our second offering from the Gogogu Washing Station, and it continues to impress with its lively acidity, floral complexity, and fruit-forward sweetness. This year's lot showcases a beautifully layered flavor profile with notes of red currant, rose hip, and peach cobbler—a perfect pairing for warm weather sipping.

The Natural Process: From Harvest to Export

To produce this naturally processed lot, coffee cherries are typically delivered to the washing station the same day they’re harvested. Upon arrival, the cherries are carefully hand-sorted to remove underripe or damaged fruit, then rinsed with clean water to ensure cleanliness before drying.

The sorted cherries are then spread out on raised drying beds, where they’re rotated constantly to promote even drying. Depending on the weather, this drying process can take anywhere from 8 to 25 days. Once fully dried, the cherries are milled to remove the outer fruit and parchment layer, then undergo a final hand-sorting before being prepared for export.

The Farmers Behind the Flavor

This coffee represents the collective effort of over 700 smallholder farmers, each cultivating 1.5 to 2 hectares of land within a five-kilometer radius of the washing station. For many of these farmers, coffee is not only a crop—it’s a lifeline and a source of economic stability for their families and communities.

In Ethiopia, it’s common for coffee to be grown on small plots alongside other subsistence crops. These cherries are delivered to local washing stations like Gogogu, where they’re processed and dried in combined lots. While this system can make farm-level traceability challenging, we work closely with trusted importers and exporters to ensure quality, transparency, and long-term relationships.

Why We Love Gogogu

We keep returning to the Gogogu Washing Station because of its consistently high-quality output and its deep connection to Ethiopia’s rich coffee heritage. The combination of heirloom varietals, high elevation, and meticulous processing results in coffees that are as expressive as they are delicious.

Whether you’re a long-time fan of Ethiopian coffees or exploring natural process coffees for the first time, this release is sure to stand out in your cup.
