FESICH (Federation of Indigenous and Ecological Cooperative Societies of Chiapas) is a group of coffee producers that operate in the municipalities of Angel Albino Corzo, Capitán Luis Ángel Vidal, La Concordia, and Montecristo de Guerrero in the state of Chiapas. This southern region of Mexico borders the Triunfo Bioshpere Reserve noted for its rich biodiversity of plants and animals in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas mountain range. Made up of roughly 80 members, this co-op began in 2013 as a way to uplift farmers in the region and showcase the vibrant flavors of coffee in Chiapas globally through marketing and exporting. The co-op is made up of 45% female producers and the co-op focuses on empowering these woman through releasing a special women produced lot (Cafe Mujeres) which we have purchased this year. Coffee cherries are picked and then fermented for 12-18 hours before being pulped, fully washed, and then sun-dried on patios.
