A Bright, Fruit-Forward Ethiopian Natural from Shakiso's Kayon Mountain Farm
Ethiopia Kayon Mountain Guji

Our First New Release of 2026
We are so excited to announce our first new release of the new year! This special release is from the Shakiso highlands of East Guji, Ethiopia, and is one of the highest scoring Ethiopias we've sourced lately. This coffee is from Guji, but definitely is reminiscent of our Ethiopia Chelchele from last year—berry forward, floral, with a super creamy body!
A Family-Owned Farm with Deep Roots
This naturally processed lot comes from the Kayon Mountain Farm, a 500-hectare farm owned and operated by Ismael Hassen Aredo and his family since 2012. Of the 500 hectares, 300 of them are planted with coffee, while most of the remaining 200 hectares are protected forest. This is very unique as it is typical for lots to be produced by many smallholders and brought to a central washing station to be processed and prepared for export. The vast majority, if not all, of our other releases from Ethiopia have come from a washing station—Dame Dabaye, Chelchele, Gogogu, Layo Taraga.
Commitment to Community and Sustainability
The farm employs 25 full-time staff and over 300 seasonal employees, who are offered competitive wages and free transportation, in addition to community aid in the form of funding schools and administrative buildings. Kayon Mountain Farm also has a plant nursery on-site where they continue cultivating both coffee plants and shade trees (mostly acacia and other indigenous trees).
Meticulous Processing for Exceptional Quality
Ismael is a meticulous farmer from growing to harvesting to processing, and this lot is no exception. It's comprised of heirloom Ethiopian varietals that are carefully sorted for ripeness and rinsed with clean water before being spread to dry on raised drying beds in the sun. The coffee is turned continuously until the desired moisture content is reached, then the coffee is prepared for milling and export. The natural processing lends itself to this coffee's bright and fruit-forward flavor profile. In the cup, we're finding sweet coffee blossom and strawberry, paired with a key lime acidity.
