Coordinadora de Organizaciones de Desarrollo de Concepcion Huista, also known CODECH, is a cooperative of over 450 producer members in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes of Huehuetenango. We have partnered with this cooperative for close to two decades as we found ourselves aligned with their commitment to quality and sustainability, in addition to their commitment to their producer members. As it is situated in the highest mountain range in Central America, coffee produced around CODECH will grow from anywhere between 1,000 and 2,000 meters, with producers usually growing their coffee on less than a hectare. These small farms are rich with diversity, from intercropped corn, potatoes, and bananas, to the genetic diversity of the coffee plants themselves. A wide range of varietals grow at every farm - Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai, Pache, and Catimor, just to name a few. These practices support the soil and plant health and allow these farms to thrive and produce the dynamic coffees that we have to love from Guatemala - rich chocolate sweetness with notes of berry and stone fruits.
